Humanwine, Dreamchild, Amber Spyglass, Desar
Last night I tortured Nate and his girlfriend Krista with a show at the Middle East Upstairs.
Désar started off without himself on stage but instead Olga and Natasha. They're not Siamese twins; they're Russian … they are conjoined, though—by an Ace bandage. They sang a cute song about how Olga is a prude and Natasha a slut.
This was great, but then they introduced "Désar—a German!". He played some sad piano songs. One was about a black cat. Nate, Krista, and I left for food.
When we got back Désar was still on stage but was now surrounded by Amber Spyglass. They were more upbeat than Désar, but that doesn't say much. I would say that their drummer was off, but their drummer was a pre-recorded drum beat, so I suppose the rest of the band was off beat. Désar left the stage after a bit, so they invited Dreamchild to join them for their last two songs. Overall, not worth leaving, but not worth $8.
Cheryl from Dreamchild takes the music too seriously considering how comical the lyrics were to my un-gothy ears. Lots of beautiful screaming. She also preceeded songs by presenting the ideas we're supposed to picture while the song is being sung. They invited Kelly from Amber Spyglass to play the finger cymbals on one of their songs. Interesting to watch, but not something I'd pay $8 for.
Humanwine is an excellent rock group with a good groove and obvious musical talent. Worth $8 if they play with at least one other good band.
