The Beatings, and some other bands
On Friday (April 1st) I, along with Matt, Mike, and Sarah, saw The Beatings open for Mittens, The Lot Six, and Apollo Sunshine (to be exact, they saw Apollo Sunshine headline a show with The Beatings, The Lot Six, and Mittens as openers). Half the bands were really good.
Although they were the reason I went to this show, they ended up as my second favorite band from the night. The bassist was really cute and songs like Nothing particularly rocked, but they also played songs like When The Guns Come Out, which, while good, sounds just as good from the comfort of my room. I bought Italiano finally, from Erin (the cute bassist).
Mittens
They were fun, and the vocalist had a good sense of humor and performed well. For example, the band forgot their second song halfway through; this normally-devastating event was saved by the vocalist singing "We don't know the words/We just wrote this song/Sorry! Sorry!/Maybe we should stop?". I wouldn't (and didn't) buy their album.
To me, The Lot Six stole the show. They flat-out rocked. I let my hair down and headbanged, jumped into the mosh pit, then back up to the front where the vocalist was throwing the microphone stand into the subwoofer and the front row. He also decided to help the drummer out by jumping on the drum set. They kicked our ass for 40 minutes then left, and it was worth it.
I met a high-school friend in the audience who is apparently the roommate of some of the members of the band. For me, he told them that they'd better not suck; sadly, it didn't work.
They:
- Were seven minutes late because they had to wear suits to perform.
- Did not rock. Did not even make me nod my head.
- Have fans who act similar to the fans of Pretty Girls Make Graves.
- Performed a planned encore.
